FRESNO, Calif. — Three rock climbers were lowered Monday afternoon from the face of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park, ending a two-day rescue operation, park officials said.
Sarah Land, 24, of Oakhurst, Calif., and Walker Mackey, 25, and Rio Mackey, 23, both of Boulder, Colo., became trapped on El Capitan on Sunday when a rock weighing about 200 pounds dislodged and struck and injured Land, Yosemite spokeswoman Kari Cobb said.
Land's injuries were described as moderate. The other two climbers were not injured.
The three climbers tried to climb down, but called rangers Sunday afternoon and said they needed help. They spent the night on El Capitan until rescue efforts began Monday, Cobb said.
