When Kate Middleton walks down the aisle to wed Prince William, the staff at Bianca's Bridal Couture in Modesto will be watching.
So will the sales consultants at Keller's of Modesto, a popular spot to register for wedding gifts. Not to mention women from the Soroptimist International Club of Modesto, who planned their biggest fund-raiser of the year around the event.
"We thought it would be a novel idea," said Soroptomist Mary Bavaro, part of the committee that came up with the idea for Saturday's Royal Wedding Brunch
Throughout Modesto, people who work in the bridal industry will be watching — or at least recording — the couple's big day.
At Bianca's Bridal Couture, Matthew Davoodian, the grandson of the store's founder, said the royal wedding is the topic of conversation among salespeople.
"Oh, definitely," he said. "Of course we're going to be looking at the dress. We know people are going to be coming in and wanting the same look."
One of the shop's employees took Saturday as a vacation day so she could recover from staying up late to watch the couple take their vows on television, Davoodian said. The wedding will be aired locally at about 1 a.m.
Davoodian expects brides-to-be to ask for replicas of the royal wedding dress. He also believes they will be interested in the royal bride's headpiece, just like the were when Diana married Prince Charles.
"We sold that crown like crazy," he said.
