Sgt. 1st Class Eric Uptagrafft, a rifle instructor and shooter with the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit at Fort Benning, Georgia, has accumulated enough points to qualify for a nomination to the 2012 Olympic Team.
Uptagrafft of Phenix City is awaiting approval by the United States Olympic Committee, according to an announcement from USA Shooting. If approved, Uptagrafft would return to the Olympics for the second time after competing in the 1996 games in Atlanta.
“It is the realization of a dream to compete in the Olympics again,” he said in a statement. “I’ve learned a lot since Atlanta and look forward to the challenge.”
