Norway has rejected a U.S. request to destroy Syria's chemical weapons, according to a statement on its Ministry of Foreign Affairs website. The New York Times reports Foreign Minister Boerge Brende said earlier this week that his country is legally prohibited from storing chemical waste; today he said there was not a port that could handle the materials or enough time to resolve the problems, according to the AP.

Former NSA director Michael Hayden found himself on the other side of surveillance when fellow Amtrak passenger Tom Matzzie tweeted his overheard conversation. Hayden was talking to a Time magazine reporter about the spying controversy then offered to give Matzzie an interview after learning about the tweets. Instead, Matzzie snapped a selfie.

European leaders are angry over new information about the extent of U.S. surveillance, and the EU is seeking new rules on surveillance, reports Bloomberg.
