- A Dallas nurse who contracted the Ebola virus was upgraded from fair condition to good by the National Institutes of Health Clincal Center in Bethesda, Maryland, Tuesday evening.
Nina Pham, 26, was transferred to the NIH’s Special Clinical Studies Unit on October 16 from Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas where she became infected with Ebola after caring for a Liberian patient, Thomas Eric Duncan, who had the virus.
Pham and fellow nurse, Amber Vinson, 29, were among more than 50 health workers at the Dallas hospital who were being monitored for Ebola after caring for Duncan. Vinson also contracted the virus and was transferred from the Dallas hospital to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
In a statement, the NIH said it has received “countless inquiries and expressions of support” for Pham, which it has shared with her. “Ms. Pham has expressed her gratitude for everyone’s concerns and well wishes,” the NIH added.
