Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal -- a potential 2016 Republican presidential contender -- is inviting his fellow governors to join him at a controversial revival in Baton Rouge on Saturday, says the Christian Broadcasting Network’s The Brody File.
“Jindal is truly at the forefront of calling for spiritual revival in this country,” the site notes. “He’s a politician who is not afraid to step out in faith and speak boldly about his Christian faith.”
Jindal in the letter says there will be “no politicians giving speeches and no preachers pontificating. ... There will only be one name lifted up that day – Jesus!”
The appearance comes as evangelical Christian voters face a crucial test to maintain even their limited influence in the presidential nomination process.
The Baton Rouge Advocate reported last month that “LSU students, faculty and other activists have come out against the event, called ‘The Response,’ largely because it’s being paid for by the American Family Association, a controversial conservative religious group that opposes gay marriage and other lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights efforts.”
Jindal is expected to announce his plans for 2016 early this year, the paper says, noting that he’s made multiple trips to Washington and early presidential primary states, including New Hampshire and Iowa.
