Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush will speak at Liberty University’s commencement on May 9 -- the same college campus where Sen. Ted Cruz last month launched his presidential campaign.
“Liberty University is honored to welcome Gov. Jeb Bush to campus for our 42nd commencement exercises,” the school’s president Jerry Falwell said. “Throughout his years of public service, Gov. Bush has been a champion for excellence in education and so many other issues of vital importance to our university community.”
Commencement will take place in Williams Stadium at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 9. Former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney -- then poised to be the Republican presidential nominee -- delivered the commencement address in 2012.
Other speakers have included Presidents George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan, Billy Graham, Newt Gingrich, Chuck Norris, Ben Stein and Glenn Beck, according to the school’s newspaper, The Liberty Champion.
The late Rev. Jerry Falwell founded the Lynchburg, Va., religiously-oriented school in 1971. The school boasts a residential enrollment of more than 13,500 and online enrollment of more than 95,000.
