Pier 1 Imports will cut about 10 percent of the full-time jobs at its headquarters, distribution centers and field administration, the company said Tuesday.
The company, whose sales have been dropping, also said it will close an Illinois distribution center and may close up to 125 "underperforming" stores if negotiations with landlords to cut rents fail.
"In total, the company expects these activities to benefit future operating results," Pier 1 said in a statement.
A company spokesperson said about 620 to 650 employees work at its downtown Fort Worth headquarters.
The spokesperson said that Pier 1 hasn’t yet determined the number of job cuts in North Texas, and that the number will depend in part on how the rent negotiations go. If rent reductions are reached, some underperforming stores could become profitable.
Pier 1 said it will shut down a 514,000-square-foot distribution center in St. Charles, Ill.
