WICHITA, Kans. _ You can still find good jobs, even in the recession. Jamie Williams has one of them. As a medical records coder for Via Christi, she's well paid and intellectually challenged _ and she works at home. "I can work in my pajamas if I want," she says.
She had to be far-thinking to get that job, however. People in Wichita who devote their careers to helping people find work say there are jobs available, but to get them, and keep them, you have to be more far-thinking than ever. Look for jobs and training even when you've got a good job.
It's bad out there. The Wichita area's unemployment rate rose to 6.7 percent in March, the highest rate in five years. Aviation and service-industry companies are shedding thousands of jobs.
Some sectors are hiring, however. Here's the outlook for college graduates, skilled workers and unskilled workers.
