GULFPORT — Bolstered by the stability of shipbuilding and the military, the Coast economy is outperforming the nation's and should see a quicker turnaround, according to the most recent report from Moody's.
In both the Gulfport metro area, which comprises Harrison, Hancock and Stone counties, and the Pascagoula area of Jackson and George counties, the cost of living and cost of doing business are well below the national average.
"Pascagoula's economy is looking up much better than the state or the nation, despite volatility in the labor market," the report said. One in five workers in the Pascagoula area is employed in shipbuilding and the continued expansion of the Port of Pascagoula is expected to bring more engineering and construction jobs.
