The government has tapped Leavenworth as the site of a new Veterans Affairs patient account center that it says will create 400 jobs with an estimated annual payroll of $20 million.
The Department of Veterans Affairs plans to house the center in a building on the campus of the Dwight D. Eisenhower VA Medical Center on the southern edge of town. The 60,000-square-foot building will be renovated with the help of cash incentives totaling $1.5 million over 10 years, according to a news release from Leavenworth city and county officials.
The payments will be passed out by the city, the county and the Leavenworth Port Authority, Leavenworth County Administrator Heather Morgan said Friday.
Morgan said the patient account center represents one of the biggest job bonanzas for the Leavenworth area in recent years.
