More families socked away less for college last year because of the rough economy, and indicated they were "not very confident" they would meet their savings goal, a new survey showed.
Forty-four percent of parents expressed doubt that they would save enough money to fund college education for their children, according to the 2009 State of College Savings survey by the nonprofit College Savings Foundation.
That figure was up from 31 percent in 2008.
At the same time, the number of parents who were "very confident" about hitting their educational savings target dropped to 12 percent from 20 percent last year, the survey showed.
