To protest outsourcing, two Sacramento County employee bargaining units, well, outsourced protesting.
Since Friday, homeless members of Safe Ground Sacramento have been picketing on behalf of two bargaining units: the Association of Professional Engineers, County of Sacramento, and the Engineering Technicians and Technical Inspectors.
Those units represent Sacramento County employees whose jobs are threatened by budget cuts.
The engineers say the county shouldn't be using as many consultants to work on the massive construction project at Sacramento International Airport while county workers are facing layoffs.
Their homeless pickets were at the airport Friday evening. On Monday, about 10 of them marched at the county building at 700 H St., carrying signs that called for saving county jobs emblazoned with the initials of the two bargaining units — ETTI and APECS.
The employee groups unsuccessfully asked the county to audit consultant contracts at the airport to see if any of the jobs could be performed by county workers slated to lose their jobs.
