An apparent bottom in the Miami-Dade hotel market gave way in August, when tourist taxes plunged 20 percent -- making it the third worst month for the industry since the financial crisis began a year ago.
After a brutal spring that saw hotel taxes plunge 24 percent, the declines narrowed to as low as 10 percent in July.
Broward has not released its August hotel numbers but saw a similar trend with large spring declines giving way to a 4 percent drop in July.
The revenue slides come as hotels slash rates in an effort to fill beds in a weak economy.
