With the economy still in the doldrums, Christmas tree farmer Jim Cobb was expecting a sluggish holiday season.
He planned for at least a 20% drop in sales.
But Cobb, owner of Cobb Christmas Tree Farm in Madera County, was pleasantly surprised during his first full weekend of business.
"We were so busy on Sunday that I almost started hiring my customers as employees," Cobb said. "We had lines everywhere."
Industry officials say people are sticking to certain Christmas traditions, like buying a live tree.
