Charlotte is the "most well-positioned city in the country" to recover from the downturn and the city’s worst days are behind us, Mayor Anthony Foxx told a group of Realtors Wednesday.
Foxx cited new jobs announcements and the city’s addition of a third runway at the airport as examples of how Charlotte is favorably positioned as the economy improves. He also said the city needs to focus more on helping small businesses, something that he said the city hasn’t done enough of in the past.
Foxx addressed more than 70 people at an event at the Charlotte Marriott Executive Park sponsored by the Charlotte Regional Realtor Association.
Asked by an audience member about the city’s vision for affordable housing, Foxx said the answer is not for the government to mandate mixed-income housing. Instead, he said, the city can encourage mixed-use housing by offering incentives to developers and others. He didn’t provide specifics on what form the incentives would take.
