Starting today, Charlotte Mecklenburg Library branches will be open for fewer hours as the system deals with a $2 million cut in county money.
The reduced hours, along with the layoff of 120 workers, were among changes approved by library trustees last month, after Mecklenburg County government reduced the library's funding for the year that ends in June.
The library system also reduced its maintenance and technology budget.
Library leaders originally voted to close half the system's branches to deal with the budget cut. But they reversed course after a week of public outcry, instead opting to reduce hours at all branches.
