EDWARDSVILLE — The financial troubles for the president of Lewis & Clark Community College, who recently retired to get access to his pension money, include a foreclosure on his home mortgage and a $145,000 federal tax debt, according to court records.
The college's board of trustees last week accepted the retirement request of Dale T. Chapman, who has been president of the college since 1992. Attempts to reach Chapman on Monday were not successful, but last week he said he needed access to his retirement money to resolve some financial problems, which he blamed on a Massachusetts real estate deal that turned sour.
Chapman's annual pay is $259,700. His wife, Linda, is the college's vice president of academic affairs, and earns a salary of $182,900. She is not retiring.
