Transform Solar, formed in February by Micron Technology and Australia's Origin Energy, says it will introduce its unique Sliver solar cells to the market "in a limited and strategic way" in 2011.
The company plans to manufacture the cells at the fabrication plant in Boise where Micron previously made semiconductors.
The cells will be assembled into solar panels at the former Spec Tek plant owned by Micron in Nampa, local officials said. The company already has hired 70 employees - mostly in the sales, marketing, administration and engineering departments, said Phil Mackey, executive manager of Transform Holdings.
It is recruiting actively for positions in each of these fields, and expects to hire an additional 40 to 50 employees by year's end, with a majority of the positions based in the Treasure Valley, Mackey said.
