The quantity may be down, but above-average prices made it a good year to be in the pecan business.
“It’s not only good this year, but I think it bodes well for the future,” said Duke Lane, president of the Georgia Pecan Growers Association.
Frank Comer, the owner of Wynnton Hardware in Columbus, said they sell more pecans during the years when quantity across the state is low. Many of their customers have their own trees in their yards, he said. When those trees don’t produce as many pecans, people have to rely on crops from orchards to get nuts for their holiday desserts.
