BELLEVILLE -- A local funeral home now has on-site cremation for all loved ones who have passed away, even the four-legged variety.
For more than 125 years, Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville has provided traditional funeral and memorial services. In December, the family operated business includes crematory services for all deceased family members, pets included.
Two crematory units were installed last fall in a new 34-by-34-foot addition that the Kurrus family built onto the back of its funeral home at 1773 Frank Scott Parkway West. The new addition has two separate retorts, or chambers, built for cremation -- one for the deceased, and the other for beloved pets who have died. The chambers are separated by a wall.
