The first tentative signs of growth show that a recovery finally is starting to take root in the Valley, especially in Fresno County, economists say.
Personal income is rising faster than anticipated in the Fresno area, and job growth is rebounding earlier than in some other regions, according to the quarterly California & Metro Forecast released Tuesday by the Eberhardt School of Business at Stockton's University of the Pacific.
"There are some modestly encouraging signs that we've turned the corner," said Jeffrey Michael, director of the university's Business Forecasting Center.
"Things are looking good for agriculture, which is certainly a mainstay of the Valley's economy," Michael said. "And we're starting to see some other industries that are important in the Valley -- logistics, transportation and trades -- picking up again as the national economy picks up."
