Round-up of Daily Violence in Iraq - Sunday 18 November 2007

The daily Iraqi violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It’s posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy’s Washington Bureau.

Baghdad

2 civilians were injured in an IED explosion that targeted the civilians near Al Jumhuriyah high school in Al Amin the 2nd east Baghdad around 7,00 am.

Around 7, 00 hit Al Rustomiyah military college southeast Baghdad followed by random shooting by the forces in the college. No reports about the casualties were immediately provided.

The US troops initiated a controlled detonation for truck that carries bombs and missiles in the main street of Kamaliyah neighborhood east Baghdad around 7,00 am. A flour factory and an orchard were damaged by the detonation.

3 civilians were wounded in an IED explosion near Al Kahlis fuel station in Adhemiyah neighborhood north Baghdad around 7,30 am.

A US army vehicle (hammer) was burnt in an IED explosion that targeted a US army patrol in Talbiyah neighborhood east Baghdad around 6,15 am. Us army didn’t confirm the incident.

4 mortar shells hit Al Shaab central market in Shaab neighborhood north Baghdad around 6,15 am. The American army uses the market as a military base. A minute after the explosion, loud bombing was heard. Police believes that the second explosion was for ammunition of the US army. The US army confirmed the incident saying that the base was targeted with indirect fire that didn’t cause any casualties.

9 civilians were killed and 20 others wounded in a parked car bomb in Al Hurriyah square in Karrada neighborhood downtown Baghdad at 5,05 pm. Police said that the car bomb targeted a convoy of one of the deputies of the minister of finance Salman Mgotar.

Police found 4 anonymous bodies in Baghdad today in the flowing neighborhoods (1 body in Ur, 1 body in Saidiyah, 1 body in Zafaraniyah and 1 body in Doura).

Salahuddin

A police officer was killed and a policeman was injured while moving an IED to the criminal evidences directorate downtown Tikrit city today morning.

Nineveh

3 civilians were killed and 16 people injured including 5 policemen when a suicide car bomb attacked a police check point in Dawwasa neighborhood downtown Mosul city around 1,00 pm.

Basra

A policeman was injured when gunmen attacked Al Maqal essential training center (8 Kms north of Basra city)

Kirkuk

Gunmen kidnapped two brothers (Emad Jawad and Barham Jawad) while they were in Al Shuhada neighborhood in Al Reyadh district west Kirkuk city.

Diyala

3 children were killed and 7 others wounded in an IED explosion near a children park in Baquba city today.

2 civilians were wounded in an IED explosion in Al Hashimiyat area northeast Baquba city
