Round-up of Daily Violence in Iraq, Thursday 3 January 2008

The daily Iraq violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Specisal Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is noy a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It's posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy's Washington Bureau.

Baghdad

At around 05:00 am an IED attached to MP for Sadrist group, Falah Shenshel's car exploded in a car park in Sadr City, sector 37. No casualties were reported.

1 civilian killed, 2 injured and 3 homes were destroyed as a Katyusha missile landed in Washash neighbourhood at 6 am.

2 civilians killed and 5 injured when an IED exploded in Zafaraniya neighbourhood, in district 962 near the house of a member of Dawa Islamic Party, at 07:00 am.

4 street cleaners injured as IED targeted them in New Baghdad at 08:00 this morning.

3 unidentified bodies were found in Baghdad by Iraqi Police today. 1 in Zafaraniyah; 2 in Saidiyah

Salahuddin

1 civilian injured by fire from armed men riding on a motorbike in the centre of Tuz Khormato district this morning.

Dyala

2 bodies were found in the village of Morjana, between Assa'diyah and Jalowlaa. An armed group dressed in Iraqi Army uniforms raided a house in the village and kidnapped 3 men yesterday. Father and son were found dead.

IED targets a police foot patrol in Zghaniyah neighbourhood, 7 km to the north of Baquba, killing one policeman, injuring another.

During raids of suspected houses in Aswad neighbourhood in Khalis district, a booby trapped house exploded killing 6 soldiers and injuring 2.

Iraqi police said that American forces opened fire in the vicinity of the propane gas plant and 1 civilian was killed. The MNFI said, "We have not been able to confirm that any Iraqi civilians were killed or injured by Coalition Forces in these areas."

Iraqi Police said in Ghalbiyah, 12 km to the west of Baquba, American forces opened fire and Two civilians in a civilian car were killed. The MNFI said, "We have not been able to confirm that any Iraqi civilians were killed or injured by Coalition Forces in these areas."

Mosul

Clashes between Iraqi security forces and an armed group in Mithaq district, east Mosul, ended in the death of one officer and the injury of two policemen, while 15 of the armed group were captured.

Suicide car bomb targets the motorcade of Tala’far Police Chief, in Tala’far city to the west of Mosul. No casualties were reported.

Erbil

4 members of one family killed and another two injured. A member of the Peshmerga attacked their home in Bitwata neighbourhood, east Erbil, in the middle of last night and opened fire then escaped. Early investigation found no animosity between the two parties, and the cause is still unknown.
