Round-up of Daily Violence in Iraq - Sunday 13 January 2008

The daily Iraqi violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It’s posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy’s Washington Bureau.

Baghdad

Two civilians were injured when two mortar shells hit al Mahdiyah fuel station in Doura neighborhood south Baghdad around 12,00 pm. Three cars were damaged in the explosion.

Three civilians were injured in an IED explosion in Kobra Ghizlan area, part of Sadr city northeast Baghdad around 12,00 pm.

Gunmen broke out an office in Arasat neighborhood downtown Baghdad around 3,00 killing a civilian and kidnapping another. People asked for the help of a police patrol and army check point in the area who responded to the incident. Clashes happened between the two sides. A police officer was killed and a soldier was injured. The kidnapped man was released and one of the kidnappers was injured severely and in a state of coma.

Police four bodies in Baghdad today, three of them were found in Rusafa, the eastern side of Baghdad in the following neighborhoods (1 body in Sadr city, 1 body in Bonok neighborhood and a body in Husseiniyah). The fourth body was found in Amil neighborhood in the western side of Baghdad (Karkh side)

Diyala

14 civilians were sickened by drinking water yesterday night in Diyala province. Police is investigating the incident thinking it’s a criminal act and confirmed that no one died and the situation was controlled.

The head of Sahwa council in Diyala Uday al Bohrizawi died in an accident when the mini bus in which Bohrizawi was in to a crushed with a truck in Khalis town north of Baquba city today afternoon. The son of Bohrizawi was injured in the accident with another four people.

Police found a body of a Kurdish man called Ayad Wali Mohammed yesterday night. Police said that they found the body in Jamaheer neighborhood in Jalawlaa town north east Baquba city and it was shot 17 times.

Kirkuk

Gunmen exploded a gas pipeline that links between the fields of Kirkuk and Biji refinery north of Baghdad early morning today. Gas spread in a wide area and it was recognized by people in Tikrit city and Alam area (about 45 Kms south of Biji city)

Arbil

Gunmen killed a doctor assistant called Nasr al Deen Hasan, 30 years old in Kesinzan town near Arbil city north Iraq yesterday night.

Nainawa

A source in the Iraqi army said that unknown gunmen burnt alcohol shop in Dibka village, part of Makhmour town east of Mosul city yesterday night. The owner of the shop was burnt in different parts of his body and was taken to the hospital.

Babil

Two civilians were injured when two IEDs exploded in Eskendariyah town north of Hilla city yesterday night.
