Round-up of Daily Violence in Iraq - Sunday 16 March 2008

The daily Iraqi violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It’s posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy’s Washington Bureau.

Baghdad

A civilian was killed and two others were wounded in a parked car bomb explosion in Mansour neighborhood west Baghdad that targeted a four wheel drive convoy.

Police found five unidentified bodies in Baghdad today. Three bodies were found in Rusafa, the eastern side of Baghdad in the following neighborhoods (2 bodies in Sadr city and 1 body in Ur). The two others bodies were found in Bayaa and Washash neighborhoods in Karkh, the western side of Baghdad.

Diyala

Clashes broke out between Iraqi police and insurgents in Hwedir area north of Baquba on Sunday morning. Five insurgents were killed, 3 policemen were killed and three others were wounded.

A Kurdish young man was killed in an IED explosion in Banmil district, part of Khanaqin town northeast of Baquba city on Sunday afternoon.

Salahuddin

Two Iraqi soldiers from the 14th brigade 4th Iraqi army division were kidnapped on Tikrit_ Toz Street about14 miles east of Tikrit on Saturday evening.

Kirkuk

Around 11:30 a.m. a car bomb exploded in downtown Hawija town west of Kikruk city. No casualties were reported, police said.

Two civilians were injured in a car bomb in the industrial area in the outskirt of Kirkuk city north of Baghdad around 1:00 p.m.

Nineveh

Twelve people were injured when a suicide bomber wearing an explosive belt detonated himself near one of the offices of the PDK Party in prophet Younis area in the eastern side of Mosul city on Sunday morning.

Seven civilians were injured when three mortar shells hit al Mosul hotel in zanjili area west of Mosul city.
