Round-up of Daily Violence in Iraq - Tuesday 8 April 2008

The daily Iraqi violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It’s posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy’s Washington Bureau.

Baghdad

Nine people were injured (4 civilians, 2 traffic policemen and 3 policemen) in an IED explosion that targeted a police patrol near Shaab stadium in Zayuna neighborhood in east Baghdad around 8:00 a.m.

Four mortar shells hit the Green Zone in downtown Baghdad around 9:00 A.m.

Three mortar shells hit the building of Jawiyah club (air force club) in Palestine Street in east Baghdad around 12:00 p.m. No casualties reported.

Around 4:00 p.m. a katyosha rocket hit the Green Zone. No report about casualties.

Two civilians were killed and five others were wounded when 10 mortar shells hit Sadr city in east Baghdad around 5:00 p.m.

Two civilians were wounded in a bomb explosion in Adhemiyah neighborhood in north Baghdad around 6:00 p.m.

Police found three unidentified bodies in the neighborhoods of Saidiyah (1 body), Shaab (1 body) and the last body was found in Ur neighborhood.

Kirkuk

14 civilians were injured in a motorcycle bomb explosion inside a market in downtown Tuz khurmatu town southof Kirkuk city on Tuesday morning, police sources said.

Diyala

6 people were killed (4 children and 2 women) and five others injured (4 children and a woman) in a road side bomb that targeted a bus in Baladrooz town, 34 miles east of Baquba city. Police said that the bus was carrying families who were in their way to visit their detained relatives in Badoosh prison in Mosul city.

Nineveh

One civilian was killed and two others were wounded in an IED explosion inside a motorcycles fixing shop in the industrial area in Rabiaa area west of Mosul city.

Salahuddin

A woman was killed and three of her family were wounded when a mortar shell hit their house in Tholo’iyah area south of Tikrit on Tuesday afternoon.
