Round-up of Daily Violence in Iraq - Tuesday 22 April 2008

The daily Iraqi violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It’s posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy’s Washington Bureau.

Baghdad

Five people were wounded (2 policemen and 3 civilians) in an IED explosion that targeted a police convoy in Zafaraniyah area southeast Baghdad around 8:00 a.m.

Around 8:00 a.m. gunmen assassinated an employee of Baghdad municipality while he was driving his car in Shoala intersection west Baghdad.

2 people including a soldier were killed and 20 others including two soldiers were injured in a parked car bomb near al Sa’a reaturant in Mansour neighborhood west Baghdad around 3:30 p.m.

Two policemen were injured in an IED explosion that targeted their patrol in Bayaa neighborhood south Baghdad around 6:00 p.m.

A soldier was injured when gunmen opened fire targeting a check point of the Iraqi army in al-Neiriyah neighborhood in east Baghdad around 8:00 p.m.

Five people were killed and eight others wounded when four mortar shells hit New Baghdad neighborhood in east Baghdad around 8:00 p.m.

Police found three unidentified bodies throughout Baghdad (1 body in Hurriyah, 1 body in Baladiyat and 1 body in Tobchi)

Anbar

Four civilians were killed and 21 people including three policemen were wounded when a suicide truck bomb targeted a joint checkpoint of Iraqi police and Sahwa council (awakening council) in Sofiyah area in the entrance of Ramadi city west of Baghdad around 10:30 a.m.

Kirkuk

A police source in Kirkuk province said that a gunman was killed and two others were wounded when an insurgents group attacked a checkpoint in al Sirat village, part of Douz district south of Kirkuk city on Monday evening.

A member in the PUK party and three of his guards were injured in an IED explosion that targeted their convoy in Tayaran intersection in downtown Kirkuk city on Monday evening.

Nineveh

A civilian was killed and ten others wounded in parked car bomb near the building of Nineveh province in downtown Mosul city on Tuesday afternoon.

A man and his daughter were injured when a roa side bomb exploded near car in al Arabi neighborhood in north Mosul om Tuesday afternoon.

Diyala

A police source in Jalawlaa district northeast of Baquba said that a suicide female bomber wearing an explosive vest detonated herself near the police station of Jalawlaa around 6:00 p.m. killing eight people including five policemen one of them is a captain and inuring 17 including two policemen.
