Round-up of Daily Violence in Iraq - Thursday 24 April 2008

The daily Iraqi violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It’s posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy’s Washington Bureau.

Baghdad

Three Iraqi soldiers were wounded in an IED explosion that targeted their vehicle in al Liqaa intersection in Mansour neighborhood in west Baghdad around 7:00 a.m.

Around 7:15 a.m. the security forces detonated under control an IED in Zayuna neighborhood in east Baghdad.

Two civilians were injured in a roadside bomb that targeted a patrol of the national police near Shaab stadium in Zayuna neighborhood around 10:00 a.m. Another IED was detonated under control without recording any casualties.

Three civilians were killed and 15 others including three Iraqi soldiers were wounded when an IED exploded inside a supermarket in Mansour neighborhood around 1:00 p.m.

A civilian was killed and six people (3 policemen and three civilians) were wounded in a parked car bomb near Ghadeer bridge in Zayuan neighborhood around 2:00 p.m.

Around 3:00 p.m. a mortar shell slammed into the garden of Sadeer hotel in Karrada neighborhood in downtown Baghdad. No casualties were reported.

A car bomb exploded in Jadriyah, Karrada district, central Baghdad at around 4.30 pm Thursday, causing the death of 1 civilian and injuring 3.

2 mortar rounds slammed into Adhamiyah neighbourhood at 7 pm injuring 2 civilians.

3 unidentified bodies were found in Baghdad today by Iraqi Police. 1 in Zafaraniyah and 2 in Doura.

Nineveh

1 policeman was killed by gunmen in Sheikh Fethi neighbourhood, downtown Mosul late this afternoon.

Diyala

Gunmen attacked District Commissioner of Wajihiyah district, 20 km to the east of Baquba at 5 pm Thursday. Wayis Mohammed Zaidan was in his car with his driver when gunmen sped by shooting into his car. Both he and his driver barely survived the attack and are now being treated for severe wounds.
