U.S military forces storm the house of Hasen Atiyah al-Iqabi, leader in the Mahdi Army in Mahdi neighbourhood, Muqdadiyah district 38 km to the east of Baquba at 3.30 Friday, and were engaged in an armed fight by his four elder sons. Al-Iqabi's daughter, six years old was killed as was his son of eight years; his four elder sons and wife were injured. "I can confirm that two children were killed and three other individuals were injured during a Coalition forces operation that resulted in the capture a known Special Groups commander in Muqdadiyah, Iraq, July 4. Coalition force medics provided immediate medical attention to the injured adult and two children who were then airlifted to a military medical treatment facility. The criminal was detained at his home while first aid was rendered to the injured. This criminal, a known Special Groups commander, has thorough knowledge of terrorist activities and leadership throughout the Diyala province. Coalition forces regret the loss of life and injuries that were a result of this operation. The incident is under investigation." said the U.S. military.
