Round-up of Daily Violence in Iraq - Sunday 6 July 2008

The daily Iraqi violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It’s posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy’s Washington Bureau.

Baghdad

Six civilians were killed and 14 people including three national police members were wounded in a parked car bomb that targeted a national police patrol near al Sada al Noaim mosque in Shaab neighborhood in north Baghdad around 10:00 a.m.

Five civilians were injured in a car bomb near Shurta Tunnel in west Baghdad around 2:00 p.m.

Police found two unidentified bodies in Baghdad. The first body was found in Kamaliyah neighborhood in east Baghdad awhile the second body was found in Doura neighborhood in south Baghdad.

Diyala

Seven people were killed and three others were injured in an IED explosion that targeted a pick up vehicle on Saif Saad- Qara Tabba Villages 43 miles north of Baquba city. The explosion targeted the vehicle of Mohammed Ramadan; an official in the PUK party and caused the death of his wife, three of his kids, his sister in law and two of his guards while Ramadan was injured.

A civilian was injured when clashes broke out between the Iraqi army and Sahwa members (awakening councils’ members) in Baquba market in downtown Baquba around 12:30 p.m.

An Iraqi soldier was killed and three others were wounded in an IED explosion that targeted a walking patrol for the Iraqi army in Kanaan 13 miles east of Baquba city around 11:15 a.m.

Kirkuk

Four members of the Iraqi police were wounded when an IED exploded targeting their vehicle in downtown Kirkuk city on Sunday afternoon.

Nineveh

Two female students were kidnapped by gunmen while they were going to school to do the final examination in Tal-Keif area north of Mosul city on Sunday morning.

Gunmen killed a civilian in downtown Mosul city on Sunday afternoon.
