Round-up of Daily Violence in Iraq - Wednesday 9 July 2008

The daily Iraqi violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It’s posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy’s Washington Bureau.

Baghdad

Police found one unidentified body in Talbiyah neighborhood in east baghdad

Anbar

Around 6:00 a.m. an IED exploded near al Abid bank in downtown Falluja city west of Baghdad killing one guard and inuring three others. 15 minutes later, another IED exploded in the same area killing five people including four policemen and injuring 17 people including 12 policemen.

Daily workers found 11 corpses while they were working in Suhaib Ibn al Roomi primary school in downtown Ramadi city west of Baghdad. The body was taken to Ramadi hospital. Police said that there was no signs of shooting on the corpses and that all the heads were covered with black plastic bags which indicates that the victims were choked to death.

Diyala

An insurgent was killed when a joint force of the Iraqi army and police raided al Udheim town north of Baquba city on Wednesday morning.

Nineveh

A policeman was killed when a parked car bomb that targeted an American patrol in al Thawra neighborhood in downtown Mosul on Wednesday morning.

Gunmen killed a policeman in Ibn al Atheer intersection west Mosul on Wednesday morning.

14 civilians were killed and 35 others were wounded in a suicide car bomb that targeted Nineveh Operations Command Major General Riyadh Jalal Tawfeeq in al Faisaliyah neighborhood in downtown Mosul city. Seven guards of Tawfeeq were also injured in the explosion.

An Iraqi soldier was injured in a bomb explosion that targeted an Iraqi army patrol in al Maaridh area in east Mosul on Wednesday morning.

An Iraqi soldier was wounded when gunmen opened fire targeting a check point of the Iraqi army in al Islah al Zirai in west Mosul on Wednesday afternoon.

Kirkuk

An IED exploded destroying a tower for Atheer cell phone net company in Wahid Huzairan neighborhood in downtown Kirkuk.
