Baghdad
A colonel in the former Iraqi Army suspected a bunch of strangers standing next to his parked car in Amil where he was shopping, of wrong doing and reported this to the police. The police found that an adhesive bomb had been stuck to his car which they were able to defuse without casualties at 9 a.m. Friday.
A mortar round targeted the Green Zone at 9 a.m. It fell near the Ministry of Planning. No casualties were reported.
Diyala
A roadside bomb targeted an Iraqi Army foot patrol near Buhruz to the south of Baquba early Friday killing one soldier, injuring seven.
Mustafa Salah, coordinator between Salahuddin Brigade, a component of the Popular Committees, the U.S. backed militia in Diyala and the U.S. forces has was kidnapped by gunmen riding motorbikes near his home in Baquba at 10.30 p.m. Friday.
Nineveh
A policeman with the Iraqi Police was found dead with a bullet wound in his head in Jamia neighbourhood, central Mosul on Thursday 21 August.
A policeman was killed by light arms fire at a checkpoint near al-Maash market yesterday.
Kirkuk
A helicopter fired at three men on the main route between Kirkuk city and Hawijah killing all three. One of the three men was an employee at the department for issuing Iraqi civil identification cards and was wanted by the police and army in Kirkuk, said Kirkuk police, adding that it is still not clear whether the helicopter was American or Iraqi.
