The Pentagon on Monday set a Jan. 14 arraignment for a Saudi man accused of engineering the 2000 suicide bombing of the USS Cole, meaning the military will bring the Guantanamo captive before the war court before President Bush leaves office.
Abd al Rahim al Nashiri, 43, is now one of six Guantanamo detainees facing military execution, if convicted.
He will also be the second of three men the CIA has confirmed it secretly waterboarded to be seen at a maximum security soundproofed chamber for Military Commissions in southeast Cuba.
Nashiri allegedly conspired with al Qaeda conspirator to help two jihadists who steered an explosives-laden barge alongside the $1 billion destroyer at the port of Aden, Yemen, in October 2000. They then detonated themselves and their load, killing 17 American sailors.
