Sahar Issa - McClatchy Newspapers

December 26, 2008 08:04 AM

The daily Iraq violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It's posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy's Washington Bureau.

Baghdad

An IED went off inside a house in Doura, southern Baghdad at 5 p.m. Friday killing one family member and injuring two.

A roadside bomb targeted a police patrol in Zafaraniyah, southeastern Baghdad at 6 p.m. injuring four policemen and two civilians.

Diyala

A roadside bomb targeted an Iraqi Army patrol in Baladruz, 40 km to the east of Baquba at 9.30 p.m. Thursday killing three soldiers, injuring two soldiers and two officers.

Anbar

A revolt took place in al Fursan Police Station, Ramadi in which 40 prisoners made an attempt to escape, early Friday, during which ten policemen were killed. As the police rallied there was a shoot out during which six prisoners were killed and seven injured. The police regained control of the situation and returned the prisoners to jail, all but three who got away and are now being pursued.

A roadside bomb went off in the home of a member of the Local Council in Ameriyat al Fallujah, Wednesday, killing three children and their mother.

A lorry was stopped in the checkpoint in Shihabi neighbourhood, northern Fallujah, at 6 p.m. Thursday, and the driver was asked for identification. The driver shot the policeman dead and was in turn killed by fire from the checkpoint security. It turned out he was carrying a large quantity of explosives in the lorry.
