Sahar Issa and Hussein Kadhim - McClatchy Newspapers

April 14, 2009 09:14 AM

The daily Iraq violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It's posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy's Washington Bureau.

Diyala

Four houses belonging to Shiite families in al Mualimeen neighbourhood, western Baquba were blown up Tuesday morning. The families were formerly displaced and had recently returned. One family sustained injuries to three of its members, and the other families got away with material damages to their homes.

One police officer was killed and another injured during a raid in al Tahrir neighbourhood late Monday.

Sulaimaniyah

A fight broke out between a policeman and a civilian in front of the courthouse in the city of Sulaimaniyah, Monday, when the policeman started shooting randomly, injuring two women and one man.

Two civilians were wounded in two incidents that may have involved U.S. troops in Sulaimaniyah on Monday midnight. Local sources said the first incident took place when American soldiers opened fire on a civilian car near Taslwija town (about 6 miles of Suaimaniyah city). One civilian was wounded. A second man was wounded on the main road between Kirkuk and Sulaimaniyah on Monday night while he was with three others, but he was the only one who was injured. The U.S. military said it recieved reports of civilian casualties from two incidents involving two or more U.S. patrols, but the military couldn't confirm whether American soldiers were directly responsible. The military said it's investigating.
