Round-up of Daily Violence in Iraq - Wednesday 14 October 2009

The daily Iraqi violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It’s posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy’s Washington Bureau.

Baghdad

Around 8:30 a.m. a roadside bomb detonated targeting the car of Abdul Sattar Abdul Jabbar, the Imam of Abu Hanifa in Athemiyah in northeast Baghdad injuring the imam and his driver.

Three mortar shells hit Jewadin market place in Shaula neighborhood west Baghdad around 12 p.m. The bombing was followed by an attack carried out by gunmen who robbed three jewelry stores after killing the owners. Police said that the gunmen threw grenades after leaving the place targeting civilians. Eight people were killed and 14 others were injured in the incident.

Three civilians were injured by a roadside bomb in Tayaran intersection in downtown Baghdad around 3 p.m.

Nineveh

Gunmen using pistols with silencers opened fire a security guard in Al-Ekhaa neighborhood in east Mosul on Wednesday afternoon.

Karbalaa

At least three civilians were killed and 11 others were injured by three explosions took place in sequence near the shrine of Imam Hussein and Imam Abbas in the center of Karbalaa city south of Baghdad around 5 p.m.
