The daily Iraq violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It's posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy's Washington Bureau.

Baghdad

A roadside bomb targeted a police patrol in Zafaraniyah neighbourhood, southeastern Baghdad, at 9 a.m. Saturday, injuring two civilians and three policemen.

A roadside bomb targeted pilgrims in New Baghdad neighbourhood, eastern Baghdad, at 2 p.m. Saturday, killing two pilgrims and injuring another eight.

A roadside bomb targeted a mini bus in Fdhailiyah neighbourhood, northeastern Baghdad at 3 p.m. Saturday killing the driver and two passengers and injuring six passengers.

Insurgents assassinated Lieut. Col. Kheleel Ibraheem, an Iraqi army officer in the Rusafa (Baghdad east of the river) operations centre on Mohammed al Qassim highway, at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Armed men threw a hand grenade at a group of civilians during traditional ceremonial Ashoura cooking (huge cooking pots are used, some with nearly a yard long radius. And cooking takes place in the street) in Palestine Street, Saturday, injuring five.

The sheikh of Ubaidi tribe in Abu Ghaib was assassinated early Saturday. A magnetic bomb was stuck to the gate of the outer wall of his home in al Nasr wal Salam neighbourhood, Abu Ghraib district, west Baghdad. The bomb detonated as he and his sons returned home from dawn prayers at the local mosque, killing him and seriously injuring both his sons.

A roadside bomb targeted pilgrims in Abu Disheer neighbourhood, Doura, southern Baghdad, Saturday evening, killing one pilgrim and injuring nine others.

Armed men in a speeding car opened fire upon a police officer and his family, who had just got into their car near Misk restaurant in 14 Ramadhan Street, Mansour neighbourhood in west Baghdad, Saturday evening. The officer's wife was killed and he was severely injured.

Nineveh

Insurgents opened fire upon a Sahwa (a Sunni militia supported by the U.S. military and later turned over to the Iraqi government) checkpoint in the west bank of Shirqat district, southern Nineveh, Thursday, killing one Sahwa and injuring three others.

A roadside bomb targeted the motorcade of MP for the National Iraqi Alliance, the largest Shiite coalition, Mohammed Taqi al Mawla, on the main route between Tel Afar and Sinjar, to the west of Mosul, Saturday. The explosion caused only material damages to the vehicle.

The body of a young girl was found in Tanak neighbourhood, Friday.

Salahuddin

A roadside bomb detonated in the centre of Tuz district in east Salahuddin, Saturday injuring one civilian.

Anbar

An officer in the Facilities Protection Services (governmental) was assassinated early Saturday. A magnetic bomb was stuck to the gate of the his garden wall. It detonated as he returned from dawn prayers, killing him outright.
