The daily Iraq violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It's posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy's Washington Bureau.

Baghdad

A home made bomb that was planted inside a deserted restauratnt in al Ji'aifir neighbourhood, Karkh, central Baghdad, detonated, around dawn Friday, injuring four policemen standing duty in a nearby checkpoint.

Diyala

A car bomb parked in the main marketplace in the town of Khalis, detonated at 7.30 p.m. Friday, killing 30 and injuring at least 80. The explosion came at the height of the shopping hours in the evening, targeting civilians.

Armed men in Iraqi army uniforms killed four civilians and injured another one, all known to be Sahwa supporters in the village of Abu Zaid, 10 km to the south of Baquba, at 1.30 a.m. Friday.

Nineveh

A car bomb parked near a mosque in Salamiyah neighbourhood, south Mosul, detonated Friday, injuring seven civilians including a woman and child.

Armed men opened fire upon a police patrol in Bab al Jedeed neighbourhood, west Mosul, late Thursday, killing two policemen.

A suicide bomber wearing a suicide vest targeted a police checkpoint in Qassim al Khayat Square, west Mosul, Thursday, killing one policeman and injuring seven civilians and four policemen. The explosion also caused material damages to some nearby stores and a number of civilian cars.

Armed men shot and killed one policeman in Tahrir neighbourhood, east Mosul, late Wednesday.

Armed men shot and killed one policeman in al Islah al Zira'i neighbourhood, east Mosul, late Wednesday.
