Baghdad
A roadside bomb targeted pilgrims in Firdaws Square, Sadoun Street, central Baghdad at 8 a.m. Friday, injuring three. (Shiite pilgrims from all over the country walk to the holy shrine of imam Musa al Kathim in Kathimiyah neighbourhood, northwest Baghdad to commemorate his martyrdom on Thursday, July 8).
A magnetic bomb that was stuck to the car of Abdulkereem Muhammed, member of the new parliament for the secular Iraqiya bloc, detonated in Dawoodi neighbourhood, west Baghdad, at 11 a.m. Friday. Muhammed had detected an unusual object stuck to the underside of his car, ran far from it and started to phone for help, when the bomb exploded, destroying the car and causing material damages to the nearby stores. Muhammed got away with superficial injuries.
Sulaimaniyah
Six fighter aircraft violated Kurdistan region airspace early Friday, and bombarded three villages in Pishdar district, causing great material damages to homes, farms and livestock, without claiming human lives, said security authorities. The villages that were targeted lie on the shoulders of Mount Qindeel, where the members of the militant Kurd Labour Party, the PKK, take refuge.
