Baghdad
Men armed with pistols fitted with silencers attacked an Iraqi army checkpoint in Liqaa Square, Mansour neighbourhood, west Baghdad at 5 a.m. Tuesday. They killed all five Iraqi soldiers manning the checkpoint and then threw the flag of the "Islamic State of Iraq" (a formal name for al Qaida in Iraq) on their bodies.
Three mortar rounds slammed into two almost empty spaces in Dawoodi neighbourhood, Mansour, west Baghdad, at 6 a.m. Tuesday, causing no casualties or damages.
A roadside bomb targeted civilians in Khullani Square, central Baghdad, at 8 a.m. Tuesday, injuring two.
Two roadside bombs exploded almost simultaneously in Palestine Street, east Baghdad, Tuesday, killing one traffic police officer and injuring three civilians.
A roadside bomb was detected by security forces in Muthaffar Square, Sadr City, and a bomb squad came to defuse it. And while they were working another bomb exploded seriously injuring two soldiers and two policemen, who were securing the site.
A magnetic bomb that was stuck to a civilian car, detonated seriously injuring the driver.
Two mortar rounds slammed into the Green Zone at 3 p.m. Tuesday. No casualties were reported.
A magnetic bomb that was stuck to a civilian car detonated in Hurriyah neighbourhood, northwest Baghdad, at around 7 p.m. injuring two civilians.
Wasit
An explosion shook the Amil Square shopping area in central Kut at 5.30 p.m. Tuesday. Preliminary casualties stand at at least 20 shoppers killed and at least 50 others injured, and toll may rise, said security authorities.
