John Henry Browne, attorney for the soldier suspected of killing 17 Afghan civilians, told KOMO News Radio this morning he believes staff Sgt. Robert Bales’ court-martial would be held at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
Browne told morning host Bill Yeend he’d recently talked to Army prosecutors who said it was their intent to hold legal proceedings in the Bales’ matter at Fort Lewis.
Browne said that was fine with him because it would save him money and make logistics easier.
The Seattle-based lawyer also told Yeend he didn’t think the case would go to trial for two years.
Bales currently is being held at the military prison at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He is expected to be charged today with more than two dozen crimes, including 17 counts of murder for the March 11 massacre in Kandahar province.
The has been no confirmation from the Army this morning regarding the charges or where the court-martial would be held.
