2 N. C. stations won't air anti-Obama ad

Two North Carolina television stations, one in Charlotte, the other in Raleigh, have said they won't air an advertisement from the North Carolina Republican Party that uses a sound bite from Barack Obama's retiring minister.

"I just don't think it's appropriate to be on our air," said Joe Pomilla, general manager of WSOC-TV In Charlotte. "I think it's offensive, and I'm not real comfortable with the implications around race."

The station is not under a legal obligation to run the ad, as it might be if a candidate and not a party were sponsoring it. The decision came amid a continuing whirlwind of state and national reactions to the ad, which John McCain denounced as offensive.
