Members of the Metro East Emergency Response Team are in Minnesota to help provide security for the 2008 Republican National Convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul.
The convention begins today and continues through Thursday. The team at the convention is comprised of 14 officers from 19 police agencies in Madison, Monroe and St. Clair counties.
Arizona Sen. John McCain, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, ordered the cancellation of all but the essential first-day activities of the convention as Hurricane Gustav churned toward the Gulf Coast. President Bush and Vice President Cheney decided not to address the convention today and devote much of their attention to overseeing the emergency response to Hurricane Gustav.
