Gov. Mark Sanford's office said Friday it does not know if the governor will allow the State Ethics Commission to discuss a possible probe of Sanford.
Attorney General Henry McMaster asked the commission Thursday to look into Sanford’s use of state planes and other resources. Under state law, the commission cannot comment on the case — or even if it has accepted it — without Sanford’s permission.
“It’s premature to comment on any of that,” said Ben Fox, Sanford’s spokesman. “We’ll obviously comply with the Ethics Commission.”
Herbert Hayden, executive director of the Ethics Commission, said Friday he could not comment on whether the nine-member panel had accepted the case.
