Republican voters, cautiously eyeing two candidates for the U.S. Senate next year, are less enthusiastic about former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina than they were earlier this year, according to a new Field Poll.
The poll found a majority of GOP voters undecided about who they want to challenge Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer next year.
Those who had a preference were split between Fiorina, 21 percent, and Assemblyman Chuck DeVore, 20 percent.
But those findings showed a drop for the GOP businesswoman, who held a 12 percentage point lead over DeVore in a March survey.
"Some Republicans who instinctively were backing Fiorina are pulling back and saying wait a minute. I'm actually going to give more serious consideration to both candidates," pollster Mark DiCamillo said. "Neither of these candidates are very well known. There's just a kind of a 'hold the phone' sentiment out there about Fiorina."
