Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison's campaign confirmed Thursday that former President George H.W. Bush and former First Lady Barbara Bush will appear with Hutchison at a Houston rally tomorrow.
The news comes the same week former U.S. Secretary of State James Baker officially backed Hutchison. The Senator also has endorsements from other people affiliated with the Bush family, including former White House counselor Karen Hughes.
The endorsement from the 41st president is a reversal from 12 years ago, when the Bushes campaigned for Rick Perry to become lieutenant governor against Democrat John Sharp.
The thinking at the time went that getting Perry in that office would help then-Gov. George W. Bush's bid for president. Texas Republicans had expressed concern that a vacancy in the Governor's Mansion would aid Democrats if Sharp was in the lieutenant governor position at the time.
