Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Jack Conway began airing his first TV ad Wednesday, touting his record as state attorney general and criticizing his Republican opponents for supporting U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning's blockade of unemployment benefits and other federal programs.
In he 30-second ad, which airs on Lexington and Louisville staions, Conway called Bunning and U.S. Senate GOP candidates Trey Grayson and Rand Paul "completely out of touch with the economic needs of Kentucky workers and families," because of their stand against the unemployment benefit renewal.
Bunning relented Tuesday night and the Senate overwhelmingly passed a short-term extension of the benefits.
The Conway ad does not mention his chief Democratic rival, Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo.
Paul, in a statement, said the Conway ad, is "just more of the same political gamesmanship from the Democrats. They love kicking Sen. Bunning around, but Jim was taking a principled stand on the debt and was not opposing the benefits."
Grayson's campaign manager, Nate Hodson, said Grayson "believes Washington needs to pay for new spending, not just add to the deficit.
"Jack Conway and Dan Mongiardo would instead continue with the same old way of doing business — spend it now and let our children worry about it later. That's why we need to keep this Senate seat in conservative, fiscally-responsible hands this November by electing Trey Grayson."
