McConnell: Murkowski should 'move on' after primary loss

Erika Bolstad - McClatchy Newspapers

September 14, 2010 07:05 PM

A group of Fairbanks Republicans wrote to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell Monday hoping he'd clarify what sort of role Sen. Lisa Murkowksi would have in the Republican Senate leadership ranks if she were to try to regain her seat by running as a write-in candidate in the general election.

McConnell has signaled with a $5,000 donation to Joe Miller's campaign that he's backing him as the Republican nominee against Democrat Scott McAdams, but the Senate minority leader elaborated this morning on MSNBC about what he thinks Murkowski should do.

Asked this morning, McConnell said he is supporting Miller who he said "won fair and square," and as far as Murkowski is concerned? "It would be my hope she would accept that result and move on."

McConnell didn't say much about Murkowski's potential leadership role within the GOP were she to pursue a write-in candidacy, other than this, about Miller: "We expect him to be the next senator from Alaska."
