WASHINGTON — Rep. Walt Minnick raised $527,358 over the past three months, according to reports filed with the Federal Election Commission. He has raised an additional $100,000 this month, said spokesman John Foster.
In the same period, Raul Labrador raised $255,382. Labrador, who has raised $441,999 since entering the race, had $134,323 in the bank Sept. 30. Since then, he’s raised an additional $60,000, his office said.
Minnick, who has raised $2.4 million this election cycle, closed the quarter with $482,083 in the bank.
The two are vying to represent Idaho’s 1st Congressional District, which runs into the northern part of Idaho and includes the west side of Boise.
Labrador’s campaign boasted Friday that less than 8 percent of its donations came from political action committees, said spokeswoman China Gum.
Labrador’s donors include a number of fellow state lawmakers, including House Speaker Lawerence Denney, Reps. Clifford Bayer, Gary Collins and Marv Hagedorn; and Sens. Shirley McKague, Monty Pearce and Chuck Winder.
Minnick drew more donations from political action committees for financial firms, including Charles Schwab, New York Life Insurance and the Commercial Real Estate Finance Council. Agriculture interests such as Conagra Foods rounded out the list. He also got money from the Planned Parenthood Action Fund.
Both candidates, particularly Minnick, have benefited from spending by independent groups — though not to the extent seen in some races across the U.S.
The anti-abortion National Right to Life spent $7,218 on a mailer supporting Labrador’s candidacy.
Minnick got a $77,000 boost from the Chamber of Commerce, which has been accused by the White House of allowing its foreign members to contribute to U.S. campaigns. The Chamber has denied the accusation.
